Banks recover from Microsoft outage; Cebu Pacific cancels flights


Three local banks that were affected by the global Microsoft outage have now successfully restored their digital channels, while Cebu Pacific Air has had to cancel several flights.

Metropolitan Bank and Trust Co. (Metrobank), BDO Unibank, and Land Bank of the Philippines announced that their online banking services are now fully operational to cater to their clients' needs.

In a Facebook post on Friday evening, Metrobank expressed gratitude for their clients' patience, stating, "All our online bank channels are now available to serve you."

Similarly, BDO assured customers, "We have successfully restored BDO's Digital Channels. Thank you for your patience."

Additionally, state-run Land Bank of the Philippines confirmed the restoration of its digital channels, declaring, "All LANDBANK digital channels are back online."

Meanwhile, Cebu Pacific was forced to cancel some  local and foreign flights.

The airline attributed the disruptions to problems with its technology partners, Navitaire (Microsoft and CrowdStrike), which led to a global system outage.

As of 7:00 P.M. on Friday, Cebu Pacific had canceled the following flights:

To reduce congestion, Cebu Pacific said affected passengers are advised not to proceed to the airport at this time. 

“Cebu Pacific is offering flexible options, which include free rebooking and travel fund, to passengers who wish to postpone their flights scheduled up to July 21, 2024,” the airline said.

 “Cebu Pacific will send notifications to affected passengers once the systems are working and will provide the options available,” it added.
