Vietnamese arrested for selling illegal drugs

A Vietnamese national has been arrested by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) for "selling illegal drugs" using ride-hailing service.

In a statement, the NBI identified the Vietnamese as Van Vinh Nguyen who was arrested last July 10 at his condominium unit in Paranaque City during a buy-bust operation conducted by operatives of the NBI’s Dangerous Drugs Division (NBI-DDD).

The NBI said it found in possession of Van ketamine and ecstasy valued at P20,000.

“The illegal drugs were found hidden inside a small teddy bear,” it also said.

“The Evidence seized were turned over to FCD (Forensic Chemistry Division) for laboratory examination and analysis, while Subject was brought to NBI-DDD office at Pasay City for the standard operating procedures,” it added.

The NBI said the operation was conducted after the NBI-DDD learned that the suspect has been selling illegal drugs which were being delivered using a ride-hailing service.

With the information, it said agents of the NBI-DDD conducted a test buy and bought from the Vietnamese one gram of ketamine and a piece of ecstasy that were delivered through a ride-hailing service.

With the delivery of the ordered illegal drugs, the NBI-CCD hatched a buy-bust operation with poseur buyers placing an order for P20,000 worth of ketamine and ecstasy.

When the package arrived, NBI operatives interviewed the delivery rider who revealed where the package came from.

“In pretense that the contraband was not received by the poseur-buyer, the same was returned to the Subject,” the bureau said.

“Upon Subject’s receipt of the contraband, operatives identified themselves and placed Van Vinh Nguyen, identified through his passport, under arrest,” it added.
