House Speaker Martin Romualdez has appealed to China to put an end to its aggressive behavior in the West Philippine Sea (WPS), as is it not good for the two countries' relations.
Romualdez gave this message Tuesday, June 4 following reports that the China Coast Guard (CCG) seized and then destroyed food and supplies that were meant for Filipino troops in the WPS.
"At sa nangyayari po we bemoan, at talaga nalulungkot talaga tayo dito sa ginagawa ng ating kapitbahay, mga taga China at sana tigilan na nila itong mga aggressive behavior kasi hindi gaganda ang relasyon natin," a visibly dismayed Romualdez told reporters in a chance interview.
(Regarding what happened, we bemoan, and we truly are sad over what our Chinese neighbors are doing, and I hope they stop their aggressive behavior because it's not good for our relationship.)
"Habang itong mga aggressive behavior ng China ay isinasagawa ng kanilang mga naval, or Coast Guard, or militia forces, or mga naval assets nila or sea assets, lalong nagiging tense at lumalala ang ating relasyon dito," the Speaker said.
(Our relationship will remain tense for as long as China carries out its aggressive behavior through its naval, or Coast Guard, or militia forces, or naval assets or sea assets.)
The intercepted food and supplies were reportedly airdropped last May 19 for the Filipino soldiers aboard BRP Sierra Madre in Ayungjn shoal.

"Sa totoo lang po, dapat hindi dapat itong [WPS] ang magde-define ng ating relasyon between the Philippines and China," Romualdez said.
(The truth is, the WPS issue shouldn't define the relationship between the Philippines and China.)
Romualdez, Leyte's 1st district congressman, said the House would continue to support President Marcos' policy of not giving up even an inch of Philippine territory.
"Syempre hindi tayo papayag na ganun ganun lang ang trato. Kaya we will be very firm and all the respective authorities will be supporting the President’s policy," he said.
(Of course we won't let them treat us like us like that. That’s why we will be very firm and all the respective authorities will be supporting the President’s policy.)
