Makabayan solon ACT Teachers Party-list Rep. France Castro has condemned the China Coast Guard's (CCG) latest alleged harassment of Philippine assets in the West Philippine Sea (WPS), which include intercepting food and supplies meant for Filipino troops.
"China is increasingly becoming a big greedy dragon; stealing and destroying the treasures and resources of peaceful people," Castro, a House deputy minority leader, said in a statement Monday morning, June 3.
"We Filipinos, along with other ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) countries with claims at the South China Sea, must unite in patrolling our waters and file cases against this growing monster at the UN (United Nations)," she added.
Catching Castro's ire was the CCG's reported actions last May 19, wherein they seized food and other supplies that had been airdropped for the benefit of troops aboard BRP Sierra Madre in Ayungjn shoal.
The seized items were reportedly dumped overboard by the Chinese.
Castro also condemned the CCG's alleged obstruction of a medical evacuation of ailing soldiers.
She called on the Philippine government to take a stronger stance against China's aggressive behavior and to work with ASEAN neighbors to protect the region's sovereignty.
"We cannot let China's bullying tactics go unchecked. It's time for us to stand up and fight for our rights and our territories," Castro underscored.
