The Ombudsman's suspension order against Mayor Alice Guo of Bamban, Tarlac will have no bearing on the Office of the Solicitor General's (OSG) investigation against her.

Solicitor General Menardo Guevarra made this clarification Monday afternoon, June 3 during a chance interview with reporters at the House of Representatives.

"No, the ombudsman suspension has no effect on the ongoing investigation by the OSG," Guevarra said categorically.

"We're looking at a different angle, other than the administrative or criminal complaint that might have been filed against Mayor Guo before the Ombudsman," he said.

"So, walang effect (there's no effect), except probably, mawawalan si Mayor Guo ng control (Mayor Guo will lose control) over the evidence that may be available in her office because she'll be suspended preventively," noted Guevarra, the State’s top lawyer.

"And that's the purpose of preventive suspension. Para maiwasan ‘yong pagtago niya ng ebidensya kung meron man siyang intention to do it (So that we can stop her from hiding evidence, if ever she has the intention  to do it)," he said.

The OSG is eyeing a quo warranto case against Guo, who is in hot water over her alleged shady citizenship.

If successful, the quo warranto will result to Guo being unseated.
