Philippines keeps Tier 1 rank in US Trafficking in Persons Report
For nine consecutive years, the Philippines has kept its Tier 1 rank in the Trafficking in Persons Report (TIP Report) of the United States Department of State, the Department of Justice (DOJ) said on Wednesday, June 26.
In a statement, the DOJ said that Tier 1 is "the highest designation in the TIP Report” and “signifies that the Philippines fully meets the minimum standards for the elimination of human trafficking.”
“This accolade highlights the comprehensive measures implemented by the Philippine government, spearheaded by the Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking (IACAT), to address human trafficking through prevention, protection, prosecution, and partnership initiatives,” it said.
“For nine straight years, the Philippine government has been relentless in its campaign to eradicate all forms of human trafficking,” Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin C. Remulla said.
“We have already gone this far and there is no stopping us in our ultimate goal of creating a world completely free from human trafficking,” he said.
Remulla commended the DOJ-led IACAT in leading the country’s fight against human trafficking. This Tier 1 Ranking will serve as our motivation in reaching greater heights in our never-ending quest to completely eliminate all forms of human exploitation and trafficking,” he stressed.
