BuCor, Australia-based firm sign agreement on programs for 'violent extremist offenders'

The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) and the Reshape Justice Group (RJG), a consulting firm based in Australia, have signed an agreement on delivery of programs and services to specialized groups of persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) known as violent extremist offenders (VEO).

Under a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA), BuCor said that RJG "will support and provide necessary training to selected personnel of the BuCor.”

“This MOA outlines the terms and conditions by which the parties agree that BuCor endorses the initiatives of the RJG and will continue to support the implementation of its programs and projects,” it said.

Dr. Clarke Jones, executive director of RJG, said in his online post that "while the primary focus of RJG is on the management of violent extremist offenders, yet we recognise the importance of working to rehabilitate other potentially problematic individuals."

"We also strive to solve other pressing issues such as overcrowding and associated issues such as the formation of prison/jail gangs," he said.

In a statement, BuCor said the partnership “strengthens the relationship between BuCor and the Australian Government to promote capacity building for BuCor personnel.”

The MOA was signed by BuCor Deputy Director General Gil T. Torralba, Officer-In-Charge Deputy Director General for Reformation C/CSupt. Celso S. Bravo, Australian Embassy Second Secretary Matthew Boyall, and Dr. Jones.
