5 convicted foreign pedophiles barred entry to Philippines
Five convicted foreign pedophiles have been stopped from entering the Philippines last May, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) said on Sunday, June 2.
Immigration Commissioner Norman Tansingco identified them as British national Vicent John Cherer, and American nationals Alexander Balay, Wallace Lynn Wendel, Kevin Edwin Daughtrey, and Billy Ray Robertson Jr.
“They were denied entry as their presence here could pose a serious risk to our women and children,” Tansingco said in a statement.
"Those denied entry have been included in our blacklist, thus they are perpetually barred from entering the Philippines,” he said.
The BI said that Balay was intercepted last May 21 at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 upon his arrival from Japan. He was convicted of possession and intent to distribute child pornography by a court in Alabama.
Cherer was intercepted at the NAIA Terminal 1 after arriving from China last May 22. He was “convicted of child sexual abuse in the United Kingdom," it said.
Last May 2, Wendel was intercepted upon his arrival at NAIA from South Korea, while Daughtrey was apprehended at the Mactan-Cebu International Airport upon arrival from Taiwan.
The BI said Wendel was convicted by an Arizon court of sexual assault as well as homicide and burglary, while Daughtrey was found guilty of sexual offense against a minor by a court in Florida.
Robertson, it also said, was "convicted by a court in Nevada in 1989 for sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl.”
