PAGASA: Dangerous heat indices to persist in over 20 areas on June 18
A heat index considered “dangerous” by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) will persist in 25 areas nationwide on Tuesday, June 18.

Based on the heat index forecast released on Monday, June 17, PAGASA said heat indices that fall under the “danger” level, ranging from 42 to 51°C, are expected in at least six regions on June 18.
A heat index of 42 degrees Celsius (°C) is expected in Sinait, Ilocos Sur; MMSU, Batac, Ilocos Norte; Itbayat, Batanes; Basco (Radar), Batanes; NVSU Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya; Ambulong, Tanauan, Batangas; Tanay, Rizal (Radar); and Daet, Camarines Norte.
Meanwhile, heat indices in Science Garden, Quezon City; Calayan, Cagayan; Clark Airport (DMIA), Pampanga; CLSU Munoz, Nueva Ecija; and Casiguran, Aurora are expected to reach 43°C.
PAGASA said a heat index of 44°C may also be recorded in NAIA, Pasay City; Laoag City, Ilocos; Bacnotan, La Union; Baler (Radar), Aurora; Cubi Pt., Subic Bay, Olongapo City; Legazpi City, Albay; Masbate City, Masbate; and CBSUA-Pili, Camarines Sur.
In Dagupan City, Pangasinan, and ISU Echague, Isabela, PAGASA said heat indices may hit 45°C.
Tuguegarao City and Aparri, Cagayan, may experience heat indices of 46°C and 47°C, respectively.
PAGASA said the heat index indicates how hot it feels to a person, taking into account both the actual air temperature and humidity.
A heat index is considered dangerous when it ranges from 42°C to 51°C.
To avoid heat-related symptoms and illnesses such as heat cramps, exhaustion, and stroke, PAGASA advised the public to limit the time spent outdoors or use umbrellas, hats, and sleeved clothing outdoors if necessary.
Heavy-duty activities, PAGASA said, should also be scheduled at the beginning or end of the day when the temperatures are cooler.
People in the affected areas should drink plenty of water instead of tea, coffee, soda, and liquor.
