A total of 532 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) at the Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm (IPPF) in Palawan had been interviewed by lawyers of the Public Attorney's Office (PAO) for possible grant of parole.
Those interviwed during a legal aid caravan held last June 12 were PDLs serving prison terms ranging from 20 years or more, the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) said on Monday, June 17
“The purpose of these interviews was to assess the possibility of granting parole to eligible individuals,” BuCor said.
Last June 12, BuCor released 16 IPPF PDLs who were granted parole. They were among the 126 PDLs freed by BuCor from various detention facilities during the celebration of the Independence Day
BuCor said the release of the 126 PDLs broutht to 14,324 the total number of PDLs freed since the start of the administration of President Marcos.
