Things to do at one of the Philippines’ biggest toy and pop culture conventions this weekend


ToyCon Philippines commemorates its 21st year with “ToyCon Evolution,” a three-day event promising to deliver the best of pop culture and the collector’s market, with a strong emphasis on creativity and innovation.

This year, attendees can look forward to the launch of new products, games, and toy designs from industry giants such as Hot Toys, Jada, Bandai, PopMart, Toy City, and Funko. With over 300 exhibitors, including retail vendors, art toys, artist alley, and food stalls, there is an abundance of items to explore and purchase.

Here are some exciting activities and highlights you can experience at ToyCon 2024 at the SMX Convention Center:

Checkout the display pieces of Pinoy LEGO Users Group (LUG) by the entrance

Make sure to visit the lobby between the entrances of H1 and H2, where you’ll find an incredible showcase of LEGO masterpieces by the talented Pinoy LEGO Users Group (LUG). This Star Wars-themed display is a must-see for all LEGO enthusiasts and features some truly breathtaking creations.

At the heart of the exhibit is an impressive recreation of Darth Vader’s throne, serving as a striking centerpiece that commands attention. Surrounding this focal point are portraits of characters like Darth Maul, Kylo Ren, Ahsoka Tano, Baylan Skoll, and Shin Hati, among others, meticulously assembled with LEGO.

Behind glass cases are Mega figures by Michael John Ng Cha, Brick Headz collection, the Death Star by Dylan Justice Go, mech collection by Bobby San Miguel. There are also stunning recreations of famous scenes from the franchise, from the Mos Eisley Cantina by Cris Dumlao to the Grand Army of the Republic by the Quilala Family, all brought to life through intricate LEGO craftsmanship.

Try to acquire a JolliTEQ63

Renowned toy designer and illustrator Quiccs Maiquez, famous for his TEQ63 figures, has teamed up with the iconic Filipino fast food chain Jollibee to create the special edition “JolliTEQ” TEQ63.

This exclusive collaboration is available in limited quantities with only 150 complete sets and 100 individual pieces of the smaller versions released. The figures come in three sizes: three inches, six inches, and 12 inches. It comes in special boxes inspired by the fast-food brand’s meal packaging. Fans can also purchase JolliTEQ shirts and stickers.

The partnership marks a significant milestone for Quiccs and Jollibee, highlighting their global success and Filipino pride. “Pinoy pride, I always bring that to TEQ63. Kaya 63, it’s our country code,” said Quiccs in a press interview on Independence Day earlier this month.

Get your first lightsaber!

Saber Source has joined forces with TOYCON to unveil the “Kawayan” lightsaber. Although this exclusive and limited-edition saber has already sold out, there's still exciting news for lightsaber enthusiasts. The retailer has introduced a brand-new, unreleased model inspired by Bastila Shan. This model features a pair of sabers that can be connected to form a double-bladed lightsaber. The package includes two Bastila Shan pixel sabers, two 32-inch pixel blades, a coupler, two display stands, boxes, tools, and chargers. Other lightsabers are available, many at discounted prices.

Watch exciting performances by emerging P-pop, J-pop, and K-pop groups

The J-Pop lineup includes performances from Bugvel, Ai Negishi, ZIGA, Chicken Blow The Idol, Kuroguro, and Tenohira EL, set to captivate the pop culture audience. 

Japanese singer-songwriter Krage, known for the ending theme of Solo Leveling titled “request” perform live for the first time in front of Filipino fans. She will be accompanied by the K-Pop rookie boy group n.SSign, featured in the MINDstyle FANX musical guest lineup. Making their first public appearance in the Philippines, the 10-member n.SSign recently received the Y Global Special Award at the 2023 Seoul Music Awards.

Calico Toys presents the P-Pop sensation G22 on stage and at their booth for a promotional meet-and-greet raffle. The girl group recently appeared alongside BINI on the Chinese survival program Show It All. The collectible brand also is hosting a live performance by the OPM band I Belong to The Zoo.

ToyCon 2024 also highlights creators and artists poised to make a significant impact, featuring a dedicated designer alley that showcases their innovative work. Attendees can explore exciting toy exclusives from Solid Toys, RLux Custom, Armored Komodo, Devil Toys, Omo Collectibles, and over 50 other designer toy artists.

Admire the 20-foot Voltes V Legacy display and meet popular television artists
