Sec Remulla orders NBI to probe killing of Davao Occidental prosecutor

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has been ordered to do a parallel probe on the killing of Davao Occidental Assistant Provincial Prosecutor Eleanor P. Dela Pena last June 10 in Digos City.

In his directive, Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin C. Remulla has directed the NBI to probe "this merciless killing and to take immediate action to ensure the safety and security of those committed to upholding  the rule of law and advancing justice in our land."

“In the name of our beloved colleague in justice, we vow that justice will be delivered,” Remulla declared.

Reports stated that Dela Pena was shot to death while onboard her vehicle at around 5 p.m. last June 10 in Digos City.  An unidentified lone gunman on board a motorcyle was suspected as the killer.

In condemning the killing of Dela Pena, Remulla said: “There should be no place in society for such barbaric acts, totally abhorrent and sinister transgressing the most fundamental aspect of humanity and life."
