Three South Korean nationals who are wanted in their country for robbery charges have been arrested in Talisay City in Cebu, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) said on Thursday, May 9.
The BI identified as them Han Jungwoo, 37, Jo Woongje, 36, and Lee Chihoon, 25, who were arrested by the bureau's Fugitive Search Unit (BI-FSU).
In a statement, BI said "the Koreans are all subjects of red notices issued by the Interpol (International Criminal Police Organization) due to arrest warrants that were issued against them by a Korean court.”
“Said warrants were reportedly issued last January by the Eastern District Court in Seoul after cases of robbery were filed against them by authorities,” it said.
It also said it was informed that “the suspects were accused of using sophisticated instruments such as tracking device and surveillance cameras to secretly monitor their victims and obtain their passwords and personal information.”
“The data obtained were then used by the suspects to breach security in the homes of their victims which they burglarized and robbed of properties worth more than 4.5 million won, or roughly $3,300,” it added.
The three foreigners are now detained at the BI’s detention facility in Taguig City pending their deportation. Once deported, BI said their names will be included in the bureau's blacklist to ban their re-entry to the Philippines.
