A Malaysian national, who had been barred from entering the Philippines but managed to do so, has been arrested at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) before he could board his flight to Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia.
The Bureau of Immigration (BI) identified the arrested foreigner as Chong Wei Keong, 38 years old.
It said "records showed that Chong was blacklisted by the BI last year after he was denied entry by immigration officers for failure to establish his purpose in traveling to the Philippines as a result of which he was deemed as likely to become a public charge or a foreigner who is considered a burden to the Philippine government.”
“He had previously overstayed in the Philippines for seven months but could not explain what he did during his long stay here. He was back in the Philippines earlier this year,” it said.
It also said that Chong was intercepted at the NAIA after receiving an information that he was about to board his flight to Malaysia.
“He was immediately arrested by immigration officers and supervisors after confirming his identity and records,” it added.
Chong is now detained at the BI's facility in Taguig City pending his deportation.
