Rotary International (RI) District 3830 wrapped up its two-day grand fellowship event dubbed DISCON 2024 with renewed hope as the district is poised to soar higher in its service journey to continue to "Create Hope in the World.”
Attended by hundreds of Rotarians from District 3830 and guests, the event was led by District 3830 "Top Gun" Governor Jay C. Tambunting and its district officers, together with Rotary International President Representative (RIPR), past Rotary International Director (PRID) Eunsoo Moon of Rotary Club of Cheonan Dosol, South Korea, and DISCON 2024 Chairperson Gil G. Chua.
On conference day one, PRID Moon gave the keynote speech while Gov. Tambunting delivered his state of the district address, both of whom delved into Rotary International's and the district's membership growth, respectively, and the increasing global grants that will ensure the continuity of Rotary's service projects in District 3830 in particular.
Day one also saw the opening of the House of Friendship Exhibit, a processional march of Rotarians and dignitaries, and a special performance by Gov. Tambunting with the top gun club presidents. An overview of the DISCON was presented by Programs Chairperson PP Doris Ensomo, while past RI Directors Guiller D. Tumangan and Rafael M. Garcia III delivered their inspirational messages.
On conference day two, participants had the privilege to listen to the following distinguished guest speakers: Philhealth President and CEO Emmanuel Ledesma, Jr., who talked about Philhealth's planned upgrading of its healthcare benefits, which the latter hopes to promote with Rotary's help; BPI President and CEO Jose Teodoro "TG" Limcaoco, who discussed how BPI puts utmost importance on customer service in its banking operations as well as its mission to improve the lives of Filipino families.
Lastly, PLDT Senior Vice President and Network Head Menardo “Butch" G. Jimenez, Jr., discussed how PLDT Home was able to drive the growth of its wired business while fulfilling its mission of fostering the strongest connections at home.
A fireside chat was also conducted on "Making Good Lasting Impact in the Modern World" with panelists, environmentalist and mental health advocate Cat Triviño; actor, model, entrepreneur Enchong Dee; and Agile Intelligence Managing Director Chewy Chua. The fireside chat was moderated by Northern Samar 1st District Representative Paul Daza.
Stellar Diva Bituin Escalante serenaded the audience on opening day’s fellowship night, while the cast of Full House Theater Company's "Buruguduystunstugudunstuy: Ang Parokya ni Edgar Musical" took over the stage on day two's "Governor's Night.” The musical recently started its run at the Newport Performing Arts Theater of Newport World Resorts.
