Heat index in Guiuan, Eastern Samar may reach 52°C on May 28
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) warned that Guiuan, Eastern Samar may experience another “extreme danger” heat index on Tuesday, May 28.
PAGASA said Guiuan may reach a heat index of 52°C, potentially marking the third consecutive day of extreme danger heat index levels in the area.
PAGASA said a heat index above 52°C indicates extreme danger as “heat stroke is imminent.”
Meanwhile, 26 other areas may experience a heat index in the “danger” category.
A dangerous heat index ranges from 42°C to 51°C, which means a person is more likely to experience heat-related issues like cramps and exhaustion and a higher chance of heat stroke with continued activity.
PAGASA said the heat index in Tacloban City, Leyte; Maasin, Southern Leyte; and Cotabato City, Maguindanao may reach 45°C.
Meanwhile, it may reach 44°C in Dagupan City, Pangasinan; Tuguegarao City, Cagayan; ISU, Echague, Isabela; Catarman, Northern Samar; Borongan, Eastern Samar; and Butuan City, Agusan del Norte.
Aparri, Cagayan; Virac, Catanduanes; Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental; Catbalogan, Samar; Dipolog City, Zamboanga del Norte; Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Sur; and Surigao City, Surigao del Norte may experience a 43°C heat index.
PAGASA added that NAIA, Pasay City; Laoag City, Ilocos Norte; MMSU, Batac, Ilocos Norte; Bacnotan, La Union; NVSU, Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya; Iba, Zambales; Daet, Camarines Norte; Panglao International Airport, Bohol; Mactan International Airport, Cebu; and Siquijor, Siquijor may have a heat index of 42°C.
