Eastern Samar town registers 'extreme danger' heat index for 2nd consecutive day

Despite the passage of Typhoon Aghon, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported an "extreme danger" heat index level in Guiuan, Eastern Samar, for the second consecutive day on Monday, May 27.
The heat index in Guiuan was 54 degrees Celsius (°C) on Monday, slightly lower than the highest heat index recorded this year of 55°C on Sunday, May 26.
PAGASA said a heat index above 52°C indicates “extreme danger” as “heat stroke is imminent.”
Meanwhile, 27 other areas have a heat index in the “danger” category.
PAGASA recorded a heat index of 45°C in Dagupan City, Pangasinan; Tacloban City, Leyte; Maasin, Southern Leyte; and Cotabato City, Maguindanao.
Meanwhile, Sinait, Ilocos Sur; Laoag City, Ilocos Norte; MMSU, Batac, Ilocos Norte; Tuguegarao City, Cagayan; Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental; Catarman, Northern Samar; Dipolog, Zamboanga del Norte; Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Sur; and Butuan City, Agusan del Norte had a 44°C heat index.
A 43°C heat index was also observed in NAIA, Pasay City; Aparri, Cagayan; Iba, Zambales; Roxas City, Capiz; Catbalogan, Samar; and Borongan, Eastern Samar.
Bacnotan, La Union; Calayan, Cagayan; ISU, Echague, Isabela; Alabat, Quezon; San Jose, Occidental Mindoro; Puerto Princesa City, Palawan; Panglao International Airport, Bohol; and Surigao City, Surigao del Norte experienced a heat index of 42°C.
In an area where the heat index reaches the "danger" level, a person is more likely to experience heat-related issues such as cramps and exhaustion, as well as a higher risk of heat stroke with continued activity.
