15 areas to experience ‘dangerous’ heat index on May 26


Despite the rainy weather brought by Tropical Depression Aghon to some parts of the country, 15 areas will still experience “dangerous” heat indices on Sunday, May 26, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

PAGASA said Laoag City, Ilocos Norte; Aparri, Cagayan; and Butuan City, Agusan del Norte may have heat indices of 44 degrees Celsius (°C).

Sinait, Ilocos Sur; Bacnotan, La Union; Maasin, Southern Leyte; Dipolog, Zamboanga del Norte; Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Sur; and Cotabato City, Maguindanao may reach a heat index of 43°C.

A heat index of 42°C may also be felt in Dagupan City, Pangasinan; MMSU, Batac, Ilocos Norte; Iba, Zambales; Puerto Princesa City, Palawan; Catbalogan, Samar; and Borongan, Eastern Samar.

In its latest bulletin, PAGASA said "Aghon" may bring heavy rainfall to areas such as Quezon, including Polillo Islands; the eastern portions of Laguna and Rizal; Marinduque; Romblon; Camarines Norte; Camarines Sur; and Catanduanes.

Meanwhile, the eastern portion of Isabela, Aurora, Metro Manila, the rest of Calabarzon, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, and the northern portion of Western Visayas may have rainfall of 50 to 100 mm.
