BI denies entry of Chinese national to Philippines due to 'fake travel documents'
Due to "fake travel documents," a Chinese national was barred from entering the Philippines last May 17, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) said on Tuesday, May 21.
The BI identified the foreigner as Wang Weigiang, 32, who arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) from Bangkok, Thailand
It said that Wang tried clearing the immigration counter with a fake Mauritius passport and identification card.
But it said BI's records showed that “Wang previously traveled to the Philippines by presenting a Chinese passport.”
“A verification done by BI’s forensic documents laboratory revealed that the documents presented were indeed counterfeit,” it also said.
During interrogation, the BI said that Wang admitted that “he acquired the fraudulent documents after allegedly investing $200,000, and admitted he never traveled to Mauritius for the processing.”
It also said that Wang admitted that "he received the passport and identity card while he was in Thailand."
“Our immigration officers remain vigilant to ensure the safety and security of our borders,” assured BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco.
“As a result of the denial of his entry, Wang’s name was included in the BI’s blacklist,” Tansingco said.
