BI vows to continue operations vs illegal aliens

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) vowed to continue its operations against illegal aliens despite the complaints filed against its 13 officers who were accused of extorting from apprehended foreigners. 

In a statement, Immigration Commissioner Norman Tansingco said: “We encourage local government units to continue reporting to us illegal aliens that might be involved in illicit activities in your respective areas."

“We have our regional intelligence units fielded to locate, arrest, and deport these illegal aliens," Tansingco said. 

His statement was issued after he was informred that a group of Indian national filed before the Pasay City Prosecutor’s Office criminal complaints against 13 BI intelligence officers who arrested the foreigners in Antique and Iloilo despite having valid 9(g) working visas.

He said that foreigners still face deportation and blacklisting even if they have valid 9(g) working visas once it has been found that they not working for the petitioning company, working for fake companies, or engaging in activities that constitute undesirability.

“We will investigate this complaint and ensure that if found guilty, erring employees will face the harshest penalty of law,” assured Tansingco.

He disclosed that 14 Indian nationals were arrested during the operations and that the BI acted on complaints that the foreigners were engaged in the illegal money-lending business called “5-6.”

He said the BI also received reports in Iloilo against Indian nationals involved in violence which prompted the bureau to take action.

He also said 10 Indian nationals were arrested in the towns of Arevalo and Savana in Iloilo while six others were apprehended in San Jose, Antique.
