Philippine Red Cross expresses support for Taiwan after 7.4-magnitude quake

After a devastating magnitude 7.4 earthquake rocked the entire island of Taiwan, the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) reiterated its concern over the people in the country on Saturday, April 6.

“Our hearts go out to the people of Taiwan as they grapple with the aftermath of the recent 7.4 magnitude earthquake,” PRC Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Richard “Dick” J. Gordon said in a statement.
“Our thoughts are with those who have lost loved ones, homes, and livelihoods in this tragic event,” he added.
The unwanted natural event occurred on April 3, considered Taiwan's biggest earthquake in 25 years.
According to reports, the incident resulted in multiple casualties and over 1,000 people injured.

Moreover, Gordon underscored that the organization is committed to providing any support to the people of Taiwan, especially during this time.
“As Chairman of the Philippine Red Cross, together with our global network of partners, we are committed to providing any support we can to our brothers and sisters in Taiwan during this challenging time,” he said.
“We stand in solidarity with Taiwan during this difficult time and pray for recovery and healing,” Gordon added.
OFWs receive cash assistance
Furthermore, four overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) received cash assistance of Taiwanese $10,000 each from the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO).
This was reported by the entity on April 5, where MECO Chairperson Silvestre Bello III personally handed assistance to one of the OFW victims who were injured during the earthquake.
