Four overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who got injured when a powerful earthquake struck Taiwan received Taiwanese $10,000 as cash assistance, the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO) disclosed on Friday, April 5.
One of the recipients of the financial aid was OFW Christine Gumahin, who fell unconscious following the magnitude 7.2 tremor (earlier measured as 7.5 magnitude) in Taiwan last April 3.
MECO Chairperson Silvestre Bello III personally handed over the assistance to Gumahin while she was recuperating at an undisclosed facility.
"The other three OFWs who were injured also received the same amount of cash assistance from MECO yesterday," the MECO added.
Earlier, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said that four Filipinos were injured when Taiwan was rocked by a magnitude 7.2 earthquake.
It was said to be the most powerful quake to hit the country in 25 years, killing at least 10 people and injuring more than 1,000 others.
