Evelyn Reponte, the victim’s mother, was disheartened to learn that the bullet that killed her daughter Jacauelyn came from the gun owned by her 21-year-old son Edwin Jr.

To escape trouble, Edwin and his two neighbors came up with a concocted story, telling police investigators that a lone gunman broke into the house and shot the victim while she was learning her modules.

The incident happened last Friday morning, April 26.

Evelyn said her daughter Jacauelyn had just finished learning her modules and tried to lay down on a makeshift bed.

Jacauelyn’s older brother Edwin was also sitting on the bed at the time. She asked her brother to give her space to lay down and as Edwin tried to move, his firearm went off and hit her sister in the head.

The victim was taken to the Cebu City Medical Center where he was declared dead.

Edwin remains at large while his two alleged accomplices, Junie and Junelyn, were arrested on Sunday, April 28.  The two neighbors were charged for obstruction of justice, police said.

Junie is also facing charges for accessory to the crime as he allegedly kept the firearm that killed the victim. Edwin will be charged for homicide, police said.

Police said Edwin was previously charged for an illegal drug offense.

Police Lt. Col. Epream Paguyod, chief of the Talisay City police, said they have other witnesses and strong evidence to prove the liability of the two arrested persons and Edwin.

The victim’s family also asked for financial assistance for the burial of his daughter.

Paguyod said what happened was an isolated case. “We consider it case closed,” said Paguyod.
