Female visitor at Bilibid arrested 'for attempt to smuggle illegal drugs'
A female visitor of a person deprived of liberty (PDL) at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City was arrested last Sunday, April 28, for attempting to smuggle illegal drugs that were found hidden in a tube inserted in her private part.
The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) identified her as Wilmar S. Castro, a Pasig City resident who went to NBP to visit her cousin Jeric Fino who is detained at the medium-security compound.
BuCor said that Corrections Officer 1 (CO1) Everlyn Mary Pingian, who was assigned at the medium-security compound, conducted a strip seach of Castro. It said that Pingian "saw Castro inserting something in her private part, prompting Pingian to instruct Castro to squat several times, which resulted in the discovery of a tube containing white crystalline substance suspected to be shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride).”
It said that Castro was turned over to the Muntinlupa City police while the confiscated suspected illegal drugs were sent to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).
BuCor Director General Gregorio Pio P. Catapang Jr. gave a spot promotion to Pingian whose rank was elevated to corrections officer 2.
Catapang urged BuCor personnel to emulate Castro who not only did her job but did it well.
“We hope to have more Pingians in Bucor, worthy of emulation," he said.
