2 persons arrested 'for selling lands with fake titles' -- DOJ

Two persons suspected of selling lands with fake titles were arrested last April 26 in Sta. Cruz, Manila, the Department of Justice (DOJ) said on Monday, April 29.

In a statement, the DOJ identified the two suspects as Arnel M. Cunanan and Romeo C. Cabansag.

Two other suspects identified as Perlita Alejo and Guillermo Alejo are subjects of hot pursuit after evading arrests, it said.

The operations against seller of lands with fake titles are being conducted by operatives of the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group - National Capital Region (CIDG-NCR) and the Manila Police District (MPD), the DOJ said.

It said the operations are arranged by DOJ Assistant Secretary Eliseo D.C. Cruz, a retired general of the PNP, in coordination with the PNP and the Land Registration Authority (LRA) on instructions issued by Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin C. Remulla.

“Sellers of lands with fake titles will feel the full wrath of the law,” Remulla declares. He then ordered the filing of charges against those arrested in Manila.

“Land acquisition is the greatest way of securing one's future, family and loved ones, hence, defrauding land titles is a very serious offense which should be dealt with very serious consequences,” Remulla said.

“Stop fooling the Filipino people or face the consequences.” he warned.
