Beat the heat: Philippine Red Cross, Valenzuela LGU install drinking water stations
By Sonny Daanoy
The Philippine Red Cross (PRC), along with the local government unit (LGU) of Valenzuela City, on Friday, April 26 installed three drinking water stations to help the public deal with the hot weather.

"The Philippine Red Cross and the local government of Valenzuela collaborated to establish water stations along the stretch of Puregold Dalandanan in Malanday McArthur Highway, Marulas McArthur Highway near Our Lady of Fatima University, and at the ALERT Center Compound in Malinta to help alleviate the hardships faced by commuters enduring intense heat," PRC said in FIlipino.
The organization said 150 bystanders, commuters, employees, and students benefited from the initiative.
"The RC143 volunteers of the Philippine Red Cross will continue the activity until next month," PRC said.
PRC Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Richard Gordon urged the public to stay hydrated amid the intense heat.
Heat index
On April 25, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said Metro Manila and 28 other areas experienced "dangerous" heat indices.
Heat cramps and heat exhaustion are likely to occur, while heat stroke becomes probable with continued exposure, if a heat index is between 42 and 51 degrees Celsius.
