Searing heat: 'Dangerous' heat indices hit Metro Manila, 28 other areas


The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said “dangerous” heat indices were felt in 29 areas in the country including Metro Manila on Thursday, April 25.

PAGASA said a heat index of 47°C was recorded in Dagupan City, Pangasinan, and Aparri, Cagayan, followed by a heat index of 46°C in Aborlan, Palawan. 

It also recorded a heat index of 45°C in Bacnotan, La Union, and Sangley Point, Cavite. 

In Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Pasay City; Laoag City, Ilocos Norte; Ambulong, Tanauan, Batangas; Coron, Palawan; and Legazpi City, Albay, a heat index of 44°C was felt. 

Also, a heat index of 43°C was recorded in Sinait, Ilocos Sur; Tuguegarao City, Cagayan; Isabela State University (ISU) station in Echague, Isabela; Iba, Zambales; San Jose, Occidental Mindoro; Puerto Princesa City, Palawan; Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA) station in Pili, Camarines Sur; Dumangas, Iloilo; La Granja, La Carlota, Negros Occidental; and Dipolog, Zamboanga del Norte. 

PAGASA also recorded a heat index of 42°C in Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) station in Batac, Ilocos Norte; Central Luzon State University (CLSU) station in Muñoz, Nueva Ecija; Cubi Pt., Subic Bay, Olongapo; Tayabas, Quezon; Alabat, Quezon; Virac, Catanduanes; Roxas City, Capiz; Malaybalay, Bukidnon; Cotabato City, Maguindanao.
