NPA admits killing resort employee for being a gov't operative

BACOLOD CITY – The Mount Cansermon Command of the New People’s Army-South Central Negros Guerrilla Front said it killed a resort employee in Barangay Oringao, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental last Sunday for being an alleged government operative.

The MCC-NPA said 43-year-old Myra Belando was an alleged intelligence asset of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) in the area.

Police Lt. Col. Roberto Indiape Jr., Kabankalan City police chief, said Belando is not a police asset because she had a previous case of illegal possession of firearm.

Indiape said they received information that she was an alleged asset of the Army but they have yet to confirm it with the military.

The NPA said that the actions of Belando as an alleged asset prompted them to target her.

Belando was driving a motorcycle on her way to the resort when she was killed by an unidentified gunman.

She had been summoned by the barangay several times due to conflict in the community.
