'Panggap na kakampi?': VP Duterte should resign from Cabinet, says Manila solon

A Manila congressman is calling for the resignation of Vice President Sara Duterte as Department of Education (DepEd) secretary, saying that it's time for her to be "held accountable" for her family's actions. 

Holding nothing back, Manila 3rd district Rep. Joel Chua blasted Vice President Duterte on Saturday, April 20 for being a fence-sitter and for "pretending to be a full partner of the President". 

"Nearly two years after assumption to the Office of the Vice President, it is time for accountability for VP Sara Duterte and the Duterte family. The Vice President should show some decency by resigning from her DepEd post at the very least," Chua said in a statement. 

"Her family unleashed a barrage of insults and attacks directly to the President and yet she does nothing and is still enjoying the perks of being part of the official family," he said. 

Vice President Duterte is the eldest daughter of former president Rodrigo Duterte, who in recent months have become the most vocal critic of incumbent President Marcos. 

"She should draw the line instead of pretending to be a full partner of the President," Chua said of the Vice President and concurrent DepEd chief.

"She cannot have the best of both worlds by being a fence-sitter while her family and their allies challenge the authority and mandate of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr while having little to show for in terms of substantive results at the [DepEd], where she is Secretary," he added. 

Chua claimed that DepEd's Catch-Up Fridays "have been a waste of time with no real results to show". 

"Learning deficits from the pandemic are worsened by the continuing resort to modules and online classes which were ineffective during the pandemic and are still ineffective now," he said.
