3 American sex offenders denied entry to Philippines -- BI
Three Americans who have been convicted of sex offenses in the United States have been denied entry to the Philippines, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) said on Thursday, April 18.
The BI identified them as Edgar Javier Manalansan, 74, Jose Ganzalez Jr., 64, and Daniel Nevarez, 46. They arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International AIrport (NAIA) last week and were immediatly sent back to their port of origin, it said.
“They were denied entry after our officers saw that they were put on our alert list for being registered sex offenders in the US, thus they are deemed as excludable aliens under our Immigration Act which prohibits the entry of aliens convicted of crimes involving moral turpitude,” BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco in a statement.
“I have also directed that they be included in our blacklist and banned from entering the country,” he said.
The BI said that Manalansan, who arrived at the NAIA Terminal 3 from Hong Kong last April 11, was found to have been convicted by a court in Illinois “for aggravated assault against a 60-year-old woman.”
Ganzalez who arrived from New York also last April 11 "has been on America’s most wanted list since 2015 due to a string of criminal cases, including cocaine possession, theft, grand larceny, loaded weapon possession, kidnapping, and two rape cases on the first degree,” it said.
In the case of Nevarez, the BI said he arrived last April 14 from Guam. He was "convicted by a US court in 2013 of seven counts for the crime of engaging in lewd and lascivious acts against children aged 14 and 15 years," it also said.
