Manila LGU gives cash aid to 800 families displaced by fire

The Manila local government distributed financial assistance to at least 800 families affected by the fire incidents that gutted houses in Tondo and Binondo.
The financial distribution held on Tuesday, April 16, was led by Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan and Manila Department of Social Welfare Head Re Fugoso.
Each family received P10,000 worth of cash aid.
The mayor extended her concern for individuals who were injured in the incidents.
Based on the reports, at least five victims sustained injuries.
Lacuna-Pangan reiterated that in cases of fire, the priority must be the lives and safety of the household members.
In many instances, she said people get injured because of trying to return to their burning houses to save their belongings.
While the financial assistance may not be that substantial, she said the aid is meant to assure the fire victims that the local government will be there to help them start anew.
The mayor also cautioned the residents that as the weather gets hotter, the environment becomes more prone to fire.
She stressed that all precautions must be taken to prevent fires.
Barangay authorities in Manila were also directed to equip their constituents with proper and sufficient knowledge on fire prevention and response.
