Manila LGU to conduct fire training at barangay level

Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan directed the leaders of the city's 896 barangays to ensure that their residents are equipped with sufficient knowledge on fire prevention and response, following the recent fire incidents in Manila where at least 600 families were displaced.
The mayor underscored that the barangay leaders should inform their residents to give way for firefighters during fire incidents as there were reports of harassments among fire volunteers.
Some firemen also complained about residents who snatch their hoses during fire response.
While the cause of fire in the recent fire incidents remain under investigation, Lacuna-Pangan called on the residents to be wary and mindful of the things that can cause fire and to make sure that everyone in the household is well-aware of them too.
The mayor said that she already sought assistance from the Liga ng mga Barangay President and Councilor Dr. Leilani Lacuna, in the mobilization of barangay heads and officials for the fire training.
The mayor reminded the residents that the fire volunteers are helping them put out the fires without any compensation and should not be harassed more so, harmed.
The local chief executive also asked the "full cooperation" and help of barangay authorities in educating their constituents of the do's and don'ts especially now that the heat index within the metro continuously rises.
