Sneakerheads! Here's where you can find rare kicks and other exclusive merch
Take a look inside Atmos newest flagship store in Manila
By John Legaspi
When it first opened in Harajuku, Tokyo in 2000, Atmos was on a mission to spotlight Japan’s sneaker culture. Through the years, it gained popularity by housing rare sneakers and collaborating with other brands. This time, Filipino sneakerheads don’t need to book a flight to Japan just to experience its retail experience as the it opens its flagship store in Manila.
Located at One Bonifacio High Street, BGC in Taguig City is Atmos' two-story store, showcasing a selection of hard-to-find sneakers, apparel, and exclusive merchandise. It boasts a warm sophisticated interiors, which set the perfect backdrop for the store's unique pieces.
“The architectural direction of this location continues to evolve the precedent set by other Atmos flagships in the region,” Atmos Phlippines says. “From the moment one sees the unique double-height detailed wooden frontage, the inspiration of traditional and modern Japanese-inspired interior and exterior elements becomes quite clear. Through the harmonious balance of materials such as wood, stone, and brass, we have aimed to create an atmosphere that is both comfortable and inviting, blended with an aesthetic identity that is refined and timeless.”
Apart from its curated footwear, toys, and other wardrobe essentials, the flagship store also features the Otaku room. Discreetly located upstairs, the room is inspired by the Japanese term “otaku,” which is often used to describe individuals with an almost obsessive passion for collecting and understanding items related to a specific interest, most commonly connected to contemporary culture. In Atmos’ case, sneakers are an obvious obsession for many Otaku, and this room and décor are a form of celebration of the kinship they feel. To elevate the experience, the room also serves as a clandestine artisanal coffee bar, a perfect spot for shoppers to meet their community.
