A total of 98 of the 122 newly appointed and promoted prosecutors took their oaths of office at the Department of Justice (DOJ) on Monday, April 15.
Fifty-four new prosecutors were appointed by President Marcos last March. Sixty-eight prosecutors were promoted at the DOJ's National Prosecution Service (NPS).
The oath of office of those who attended the ceremony was administered by DOJ Undersecretary Hermogenes T. Andres. Those who failed to attend the mass oath-taking ceremony can take their oaths of office before any government official authorized to administer oaths.
“I encourage you to be the best versions of yourselves, strive for excellence in everything that you do, uphold the highest ethical standards and never lose sight of the importance of your role in upholding the rule of law,” said Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin C. Remulla in a message delivered for him by Undersecretary Nicholas Felix L. Ty.
“I have full confidence in your abilities, your dedication and your commitment to justice,” Remulla also said in his message.
“I believe that each one of you has the potential to make a lasting impact in our legal system and in the lives of those you serve,” he added.
Remulla reminded the prosecutors that they are “the gatekeepers of criminal justice.”
“You hold a critical role in ensuring that the rule of law is upheld, that the rights of individuals are protected and that justice is served without fear or favor,” he said.
Among the 122 prosecutors, DOJ said five were promoted at the Office of the Secretary of Justice Prosecution Staff (OSJPS), namely, Prosecutor V Hazel C. Decena-Valdez, Prosecutor II Angelica A. Laygo-Francisco, Prosecutor II Luis Miguel Alonso Flores, Prosecutor II BOrgy Vedna Calugay, and Prosecutor II Gino Angelo Palmero Yanga.
