112 Sablayan Prison PDLs apply for parole, executive clemency
A total of 112 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) at the Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm (SPPF) in Occidental Mindoro had applied for parole and executive clemency, the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) said.
Executive clemency "refers to reprieve, absolute pardon, conditional pardon with or without parole conditions, and commutation of sentence granted by the President."
In a statement issued on Sunday, April 14, BuCor said the 112 PDLs have underwent pre-parole and executive clemency investigations and interviews conducted by the Occidental Mindoro Parole and Probations Office last April 4 to 5.
“The initiative underscores the commitment of the Occidental Mindoro Parole and Probation Office in upholding justice, facilitating rehabilitation, and promoting the successful reintegration of PDLs into society,” BuCor said.
“Through rigorous evaluations and interviews, the authorities aim to make well-informed decisions regarding parole and clemency, emphasizing individual rehabilitation and community safety,” it said.
It also said that "the Occidental Mindoro Parole and Probation Office looks forward to leveraging the outcomes to further support the rehabilitation and successful reintegration of PDLs, ultimately contributing to a safer and more inclusive society.”
Last March, President Marcos granted conditional pardon to 22 PDLs while 20 others were granted commutation of jail sentence.
