Gunman of Iloilo cop shot dead in pursuit operation


ILOILO CITY – A suspected drug pusher who gunned down a police officer in Pototan, Iloilo, was killed in a hot-pursuit operation in Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo, last Monday, April 8.

Police identified the suspect as Michael D. Solis of Pototan.

Solis allegedly killed Police Corporal Reo Manero of the Pototan Municipal Police Station during an undercover operation on April 8.

Police Col. Ronaldo Palomo, chief of the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO), confirmed the suspect’s death.

“We are saddened to confirm his death.  He engaged our operation personnel in a gunfight,” said Palomo on Wednesday, April 10.

The 41-year-old suspect fled and sought refuge in Barangay Sohoton, Barotac Nuevo.

The follow-up operation against Solis was led by the Pototan Municipal Police Station as well as the IPPO Provincial Intelligence Unit (PIU), IPPO Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit (PDEU), IPPO Special Operations Group, IPPO Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team, the Dingle Municipal Police Station, the Barotac Nuevo Police Station, and Dumangas Municipal Police Station.

Police Brig. Gen. Jacky Wanky, Police Regional Office-6 chief, lauded the quick action taken IPPO by units against the suspect.
