Cop conducting surveillance killed in Iloilo


ILOILO CITY – A policeman was gunned down by a drug pusher while he was conducting surveillance against the suspect in Pototan, Iloilo on Monday, April 8.

The victim was identified as Police Corporal Reo Manero, a resident of Janiuay town, Iloilo, and a newly assigned law enforcer in the municipality.

Initial investigation said Manero entered the family compound of the suspect, Michael, 41, in Barangay Polot-an.

Michael saw Manero and drew a gun and shot the victim thrice.

Manero was taken to the Iloilo Provincial Hospital in Pototan where he died.

He was previously assigned to the Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit (PDEU) of the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO).

The suspect fled after the incident.

IPPO Director Police Col. Ronaldo Palomo has ordered a manhunt against the suspect.

The Police Regional Office-6 mourned the death of Manero.

"As we mourn his passing, the PRO-6 men and women extend their gratitude for his  services rendered to the country and people," said PRO-6 chief Police Brig. Gen. Jack Wanky. "We extend our sincerest and deepest sympathies to the bereaved family."
