Metro Manila's prosecutors achieve higher case disposition, court conviction rates in 2023
Metro Manila's Offices of City Prosecutor (OCPs) achieved higher rates on court conviction and disposition of cases they handled in 2023 compared to those in 2022.
Records of the National Prosecution Service (NPS) of the Department of Justice (DOJ) show that 16 Metro Manila OCPs attained 89.29 percent success rate in cases filed in courts in 2023 compared to 86.40 percent in 2022.
On disposition of complaints resolved through preliminary investigation, records also show that the OCPs attained 98.69 percent compared to 94.02 in 2022.
Prosecutor General Benedictor A. Malcontento commended the OCPs “for their dedication and hard work in ensuring that cases are properly and expeditiously resolved."
“Responding to the call of the Secretary of Justice for all members of the DOJ to work hand in hand in delivering speedy justice, the OCPs in the National Capital Region (NCR) exhibited exemplary performances once again,” Malcontento said.
He identified the top five performing Metro Manila OCPs as Makati which is headed by City Prosecutor (CP) Dindo Ventureza, Marikina under CP Laurence Taliping, Muntinlupa under CP Aileen Marie Gutierrez, Paranaque under CP Benjamin Vermug, and Pasig under CP Rey Dumalao II.
NPS records show that the Muntinlupa OCP has a success rate of 96.42 percent for court cases; Marikina, 91.1 percent; Muntinlupa, 95.38 percent; Paranaque, 94 percent; and Pasig, 95.72. All five OCPs achieved 100 percent disposition rates.
Malcontento said the performance of the NCR OCPs, all of which are under his administrative supervision, has been attributed “to the close monitoring of case dispositions” that he himself did.
He also stressed the importance that complaints were resolved correctly within 120 days from the time the charges are filed.
