'A revelation!': EU envoy tastes Bicol's delicacies during Naga trip

European Union Ambassador to the Philippines Luc Veron on Saturday, March 9, talked about his trip to Bicol region where he was surprised by its merienda offerings.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the ambassador shared about his recent trip as he attended an event for the International Women’s Month.

“Bicol's merienda scene was a revelation! Angko forever has my heart, and the oh-so-delicious Hinalo and Pandesilos, there's something for every craving. What's your favorite merienda?,” he wrote.

Veron used the hashtags #BicolEats and his own #MeriendaNiLuc for the post.

In particular, he was impressed by rice-based Angko and Hinalo, and Bicol’s own version of Pandesal, the Pandesilos.

The envoy even shared a photo of him while eating the native delicacies.

Former vice president Leni Robredo, who is in Europe for an engagement, shared her sentiments about not being able to personally tour Veron.

“It is unfortunate that I am not there to personally welcome you but please know that we value your friendship and we are grateful for all the assistance that our country has been receiving from the EU,” she wrote on Facebook.

The former official also shared a photo of the ambassador and his wife at the Jesse Robredo Museum in Naga City.

Veron was also in Naga for the embassy’s collaboration with the Justice Zone and the Ateneo de Naga Law School for the GOJUST program, which aims to improve access to justice for all Filipinos.

“Building a society with equal access to justice is only possible when women are actively involved,” he said in an earlier X post.
