Filipinos have definitely made it to the mecca of fashion—Paris. Whether they are sitting beside elites on the front row of runway shows or producing spectacular designs, these Filipino fashion creatives have been raising the country’s flag high in the international scene. One of the latest to do that is Fil-Am model Dara Allen.
Recently, Dara walked the runway of Miu Miu. Showcased during Paris Fashion Week, the brand’s fall-winter 2024 collection details how clothing mirrors one’s "development of character, both personal and universal”—how people dress as they go through different stages of their lives. Dubbed “Individual Moments,” the ready-to-wear collection presented on the runway pieces that reflects adulthood—sleek silhouettes, reimagined office wear, and sophisticated dress—which are imbued with childhood whimsy as the show progressed.
“Childhood is a moment of impulsive, natural rebellion, here reflected in the liberation of a dichotomous mixing of different codifications of dress, pajamas with outerwear, proper with improper, right with wrong. Mnemonic devices, clothes can make us both think back, and project forwards,” the brand said.
This is not the first time Dara walked the runway of mega designers or brands. In the past, she graced the runways of Marc Jacobs, Prabal Gurung, Kenzo, and Erdem. Today, she is one of the leaders of Interview Magazine as its fashion director and the stylist behind the jaw-dropping looks of "Euphoria" actress Hunter Schafer.
“This was a total dream come true,” Dara posted about her runway appearance at Miu Miu. “No words except thank you, Mrs. [Miuccia] Prada.”
Dara is not the first Filipino trans woman recognized by Miu Miu. In 2021, the brand featured Filipino filmmaker Isabel Sandoval through its series Miu Miu Women’s Tales.
