A total of 966 new corrections officers finished their training and will now be deployed to various detention facilities nationwide of the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor).
BuCor said the new officers finished their Corrections Officer Custodial Basic Course (COCBC) of the Corrections National Training Institute (CNTI).
It said the new graduates under class “Payonirus” are composed of 665 males and 301 females from different Operating Prisons and Penal Farms (OPPFs) of the bureau.
They included 504 new officers from the New Bilibid Prison-National Headquarters (NBP-NHQ), 188 from Davao Prison and Penal Farm (DPPF), 80 from Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm (SPPF), 77 from Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm (IPPF), 60 from San Ramon Prison and Penal Farm (SRPPF), and 57 from Leyte Regional Prison (LRP),” it also said.
During the graduation ceremony, New Bilibid Prison (NBP) Acting Superintendent Corrections Chief Insp. Roger Boncales urged the new corrections officers to do their jobs well.
“Kayong mga class Payonirus ay hinahamon ko na pag-ibayuhin, palaguin ang inyong kaalaman at umaayos sa hanay ng pagtatrabaho (Those in this class I challenge you to expand what you know and do your jobs well),” Boncales said.
Last Feb. 29, a total of 93 new corrections officers also graduated after having completed the COCBC.
Among other duties, a corrections officer manages and administer the custody, discipline, and day-to-day activities of persons deprived of liberty, and to ensure a healthy, safe, and secure environment.
