ILOILO CITY – The Department of Energy reminded residents of Panay Island to conserve energy following another power blackout on March 1.
“The general public is also encouraged to conserve energy,” the DOE said in an appeal to residents of Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental provinces as well as the highly urbanized cities of Iloilo and Bacolod.
The blackout was caused by the shutdown of three different units of the coal-fired power plant of Panay Energy Development Corp. here.
“This resulted in a partial blackout of the Panay sub-grid and some parts of Negros,” the DOE said.
The DOE also reminded the people of the scheduled maintenance shutdown of Palm Concepcion Power Corp. (PCPC) in Concepcion town, Iloilo until March 30.
The agency said it is imperative to save energy until the transmission upgrade of PCPC ends its scheduled maintenance as well as the Cebu-Negros-Panay transmission upgrade of the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP).
