Today, the Christendom observes Good Friday in remembrance of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ on the cross of Calvary.

Jesus Christ’s death on the cross was a fulfillment of God’s plan for salvation. Through His death, He spared mankind from eternal condemnation to underscore God’s unconditional and steadfast love for humanity.

Without Christ’s death on that fateful Good Friday, there would be no chance for us to attain eternal life as we are all destined for eternal condemnation because of the sinful ways we inherited from our forebears in the Garden of Eden. As it is written in Romans 3:23, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”

So, what’s the consequence of sin? Is it possible to close the gap between God and humanity? Is it possible to avoid eternal condemnation?

Yes, everything is possible to God. According to Roman 6:23, “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

By shedding His own blood on the cross of Calvary, Jesus Christ obtained eternal redemption for us. His death paid the price for our sins and freed us from God’s wrath.

As it is written in the Holy Scripture, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16) .

And according to 1 Peter 3:18, “For Christ also suffered for sins once for all, the just for the unjust, so that He might bring us to God, having been put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit.”

What better way for God to show His unconditional love for mankind than sacrificing His own beloved Son to redeem us from our sins so that we may be spared from eternal condemnation.

As it is written in Romans 5:8, “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
While we were all sinners, God showed His love for mankind when He sacrificed his only Son, who died for our sins so that we may have eternal life.

Jesus Christ’s death on the cross of Calvary to spare mankind from eternal condemnation on that fateful Good Friday some 2,000 years ago is what makes today’s observance good.

While Jesus Christ’s death was gruesome, we should rejoice and celebrate this important day in the history of mankind as this is a clear proof of God’s unconditional love for all of us. Imagine God sacrificing His only begotten Son to die for our sins? This is what makes Good Friday good and important.

As the Apostle Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 15:3-4, “I passed on to you what I received, which is of the greatest importance: that Christ died for our sins, as written in the Scriptures; that he was buried and that he was raised to life three days later, as written in the Scriptures.”

Because of sin, we were separated from God. But Jesus Christ’s death on the cross bridged that gap between God and mankind.
As we observe Good Friday today, let’s all reflect on the significance of Jesus Christ’s death on the cross. Let’s commit our life to following Jesus, trusting Him wholeheartedly and entrusting Him full authority over your life.
