NBI arrests woman for 'duping' Malaysian in 'deletion' of immigration blacklist
A woman who claimed she could help delete and lift the Bureau of Immigration's (BI) blacklist against a Malaysian national from whom she got P110,000 has been arrested during an entrapment operation in Pasay City.
In a statement, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) identified her as Rey Ann Lipata Balane who was arrested last March 19 during the operation conducted by agents of the NBI-National Capital Region (NBI-NCR).
The NBI said Balane was charged with estafa before the Pasay City Prosecutor's Office.
It said it conducted the operation after receiving a complaint from the Malaysian national who alleged that “Subject Balane represented herself that she can help in the process of voluntary deportation of the Complainant as she has many connections with the Bureau of Immigration (BI) in exchange for a sum of money.”
“Subject Balane was able to collect P110,000 from the Complainant for the voluntary deportation and continuously demanded P70,588 as bribe money to lift her blacklist record,” the bureau said.
It also said: "Complainant and Subject Balane agreed to meet in a condominium in Pasay City to hand over the demanded money. While counting the entrapment money, NBI-NCR operatives immediately approached the Subject and announced her arrest."
