BI bars leaves of personnel assigned at international ports until April 1
Bureau of Immigration (BI) personnel assigned in the country’s international ports have been barred from taking leaves this Holy Week in anticipation of the high volume of passengers.
“From March 22 hanggang April 1 meron tayo prohibition na magleave from work lalong lalo’t na po sa ating mga international ports (Immigration personnel, especially those assigned in international ports have been prohibited from taking leaves from March 22 up to April 1),” said BI Deputy Spokesperson Melvin Mabulac during an interview on PTV’s Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon.
Mabulac explained that the BI gave the directive in anticipation in the rise of passengers during the Holy Week.
“The daily average for March meron tayong departure na 42,900 passengers (The daily average of departing passengers this March has been at 42,900),” he said.
“Pero ngayon umaabot na tayo ng 47,500 starting noong March 22 (But now the daily average has been 47,500 since March 22),” he added.
To address the influx of paassengers, Mabulac said 65 more personnel have been deployed to the various international ports to augment the manpower.
He also said the BI will also be using mobile counters if needed to accommodate the processing of more passengers.
