Close associate of Kim Sae-ron, 'Queen of Tears' star Kim Soo-hyun denies they are dating

A close associate of drunk driving actress Kim Sae-ron and “Queen of Tears” star Kim Soo-hyun denied rumors that the two are dating or in a romantic relationship. 

On March 24, Kim Sae-ron, 23, uploaded a photo on Instagram showing her and Kim Soo-hyun, 36, posing cheek to cheek. She immediately deleted it but netizens managed to screenshot it.

This sparked rumors that the two are dating or in a romantic relationship amid the airing of “Queen of Tears,” which is currently No. 1 on cable TV in South Korea. 

In “Queen of Tears,” Kim Soo-hyun and actress Kim Ji-won play the roles of husband and wife who are undergoing marital problems. 

There was no explanation from Kim Sae-ron why she uploaded the photo, which sparked angry comments from netizens and fans who are concerned that it will affect the success of “Queen of Tears” and Kim Soo-hyun.

After reports came out about the photo, a close associate immediately denied their relationship and said it was an old photo. 

“There are no current photos or romantic relationship,” the source told Korean media outlet Osen. 

The close associate added, “The photo that was suddenly uploaded and then deleted early today (March 24) is not a recent photo or a current photo. At the same time, it’s not dating or a romantic relationship.”

Kim Sae-ron started as a child actress starring in the 2010 movie “The Man From Nowhere” and drama “The Great Shaman Ga Doo-shim.” 

She was under contract with Gold Medalist, the current agency of Kim Soo-hyun. Kim Sae-ron belonged to the agency from January 2020 until her contract expired in December 2022, which was not renewed. 

Kim Sae-ron is on hiatus after she was found guilty of drunk driving in Seoul and was fined 20 million won (about $14,900) by the Seoul Central District Court in April last year. 

The case stemmed from an incident on May 18, 2022 when a drunk Kim Sae-ron was driving in Cheongdam, Gangnam in Seoul. She crashed her car and hit a guardrail, tree and a transformer. 

When she hit the transformer, it caused a power outage affecting 57 business establishments in the area for three hours. 

She drove away but was caught by the police. She refused to take a breathalyzer and asked the police for her to undergo a blood alcohol test and was taken to a nearby hospital. Her blood sample showed that her blood alcohol content (BAC) was 0.2 percent on the day of the car accident, which, under Korea’s law, merited the revocation of her driver’s license. 

Kim Soo-hyun, meanwhile, is enjoying the success of “Queen of Tears.” Episode 5 of “Queen of Tears” on March 23 got first-place ratings among cable TV programs of 10.964% nationwide in South Korea, and 12.197 percent in the metropolitan area.
