Two Filipinos who admitted to immigration officers that they purchased their "fake" documents through Facebook were barred from boarding their flight to Oman last March 19.
"You cannot just buy documents online. Ensure that you are getting your documents from legitimate sources, lest be duped into getting fake ones,” Immigration Commissioner Norman Tansingco said in a statement issued on Friday, March 22.
The Bureau of Immigration (BI) said the two Filipinos -- a male who is 51 years old and female who is 30 years old, initially told immigration officers that they are tourists who will be visiting their respective spouses who are Overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Oman.
It said the two Filipinos submitted marriage certificates as proof to their marriage to the OFWs.
“However, after assessment by frontline immigration officers, they were referred for secondary inspection after noting inconsistencies in their statements and documents,” It also said.
During the secondary inspection, the BI said “they admitted to have bought the documents from fixers they met on Facebook” and were “instructed to pose as tourists, sponsored by their fake spouses.”
“Their marriage certificates were subjected to forensic document inspection, which confirmed that they were indeed fake,” BI said.
It said the two Filipinos were promised to work as a car painter and a salon worker in Oman.
