A Taiwanese fugitive wanted in his country for alleged fraud-related offenses was arrested by operatives of the Bureau of Immigration (BI) in Bamban, Tarlac last March 15.
The BI said that the arrest of Chang Chia Wei, 42, had been requested by the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office to stand trial on the cases filed against him.
It said "a warrant for Chang’s arrest was issued by the Shilin district prosecutor’s office in Taiwan where he is charged for violating his country’s offenses against company act.”
“Authorities alleged that Chang is a member of a criminal syndicate which used his personal bank account as depository of the profits that the organization earned from its fraud-related activities since 2015,” it also said.
The warrant of arrest issued against Chang was issued by the BI in 2021 for being an undesirable aliend. In November 2023, Chang's passport had expired, the BI said.
Chang is now detained at the BI’s facility in Taguig City pending his deportation, it also said.
