Probe ordered on 'extortion activities' of some immigration personnel
Bureau of Immigration (BI) Commissioner Norman Tansingco has ordered an investigation into alleged extortion activities committed by some bureau personnel who are reportedly targetting the Filipino-Indian community in Iloilo, Bacolod City, and Bohol.
Reports stated that some BI personnel have been asking P350,000 from every Filipino-Indian they arrested in exchange for his or her release.
BI Spokesperson Dana Krizzia Sandoval said the bureau has yet to receive any formal complaints concerning the alleged irregularity.
However, Sandoval said, Commissioner Tansingco immediately initiated a probe upon receipt of the report.
“His office does not tolerate the use of names of officials in extortion activities,” she reiterated.
“We have initiated an investigation on this matter and are welcoming information from concerned individuals on reports against erring personnel,” Tansingco said.
