Positive development: Group reacts to 'no penalty order' against viral TikTok teacher
DepEd urged to establish a policy that would protect teachers
A group on Thursday, March 21, welcomed the decision of the Department of Education (DepEd) not to impose sanctions or penalties on an angry public school teacher whose TikTok video went viral over the weekend.

For the Teachers' Dignity Coalition (TDC), this decision is a “positive development” as it demonstrates “some level of empathy” from the DepEd leadership towards the teacher.
“Well, at least we heard an assurance from VP Sara that the teacher will not be punished, and this statement should suffice for the DepEd Regional Office to adhere to,” said TDC National Chairperson Benjo Basas in a statement.
In an interview during her visit to Cambodia, Duterte said that there would be no penalties for the teacher caught lashing at her students through TikTok Live.

While TDC welcomed this development, the group emphasized that this statement should “translate into an established policy rather than remain merely a verbal assurance.”

“We anticipate that this assurance will be formalized into a policy to ensure its application beyond this specific case,” Basas added.
In a statement issued earlier, TDC underscored the need for DepEd and other concerned agencies to craft a policy that would also protect teachers.

TDC said it has long been advocating for a review of the DepEd Child Protection Policy and amendments to Republic Act 7610.
For TDC, concrete actions need to be taken to ensure the “protection and welfare” of both students and teachers within the education system.
